A very very belated wedding gift to one of my dearest friends. I don't think she checks my DA at all so hopefully this will stay a surprise until she gets it in the mail >_>
Both she and her husband are swimmers and Disney's The Little Mermaid is her favorite movie.

I based my painting more on Hans Christian Andersen's version. No boob shells on my mermaids plz.

Done in pencil, Sakura Micron pens, Winsor & Newton watercolors and white ink. (in that order)

This reminds me of the old saying: "Red sky in morning, sailor's take warning. Red sky at night, sailor's delight."

Stunning composition and I love the colors! Even though the mermaid is in the foreground, the colors in the sunset grab your eye first, making her more of an afterthought instead of the focus of the picture. Nice effect! This would be at home in any fairy tale book.
