My entry for the "Kick Your Own @ss" contest [link]
The purpose of the contest was to revisit a piece from your past and to recreate it in order to see how much you have progressed. I will be submitting this into the Traditional category. For my entry, I chose to recreate the first Eli and Rupert drawing I ever did from back in December of 2007: [link] The full version of the recreated piece is here: [link] Eli has gone through some changes since 2 and a half years ago and looks a bit older than he used to. Rupert really hasn't changed other than looking a bit more fat. I tried my best to recreate the exact same composition except with subtle changes in poses to make them more interesting and to add more detail and color. All in all, I'm really proud with how far I have come along. What always bothered me about the previous piece was how horribly drawn Eli's face was. I paid close attention to his face this time around and, in general, I am very happy with how much I have improved with facial features over the years. My line-work has become more neat and I put much more thought into color choice. My one worry is that once I finished this piece, I went back and checked the rules of the contest and it sounds like the new version was supposed to be made in the exact same medium as the previous (in this case colored pencils) whereas the new one is obviously in watercolor. I hope it's still alright since they're both traditional techniques but if it gets disqualified it's ok. Rules are rules and I'm just happy that I had a chance to prove to myself how much I've grown as an artist. |

They're fun to do anyway though! It's a good learning experience

Two different mediums and yet both are equally nice to look at and beautiful done.
Thanks for sharing them!
